We are in Rome!! The flight here was not fun but bearable. Neither of us could sleep and we arrived here at 10 am and basically skipped the night. We were accosted at the airport and ending up getting a very expensive taxi without realizing it. But, it was a nice ride and such is the process of learning.

We wandered around a bit after checking in to our B&B and found some lunch - also very expensive as we are very close to Vatican City and all the tourists are pestered constantly to spend their hard earned money. After eating, we decided to take a short nap that turned out to be five hours. Oh, dear. When we finally woke up, we both felt immensely better. We found a great place to have dinner and enjoyed some authentic Italian cuisine. Afterwards, we wandered around and looked at St Peter's Square in the night lighting. The streets are everything I imagined - little sidewalk cafes everywhere on cobbled streets. It is wonderful being here. We are going to TRY and sleep tonight and plan to have a long day of walking tomorrow seeing a lot of Ancient Rome. The Vatican is closed tomorrow so we'll try and do that the next day before we head to Florence.

I'm getting a chance to practice a little Italian but I wish I knew more! The people are so nice everywhere you go. We love our little Air B&B. It is a tiny place but very comfortable and close to everything. It is so nice NOT to be in an American hotel.
