Last day in Firenze. Started the day with more wonderful coffee.....we've been drinking about 3-4 lattes/capuccinos/espressos a day. They aren't as strong as coffee at home and it doesn't really bother you.
We got all packed up and put our bags in the luggage room the owners of our Air BnB let us use and walked to the Uffizi. This is an amazing Renaissance Art Museum and has many of the most famous pieces of art in the world contained in it. I'm not a big museum fan but we took our time and went through the whole museum. There was actually a Leonardo da Vinci exhibit as well. Saw a lot of amazing art - all of it very old dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The Uffizi itself is very old and has a couple of rooms that were built to amaze and they do! The ceilings are all covered with paintings as well. I really did enjoy it. Kind of amazed myself.
Time to head to the train - walked back and got our bags and walked to the train station and boarded the train for Bologna. When we arrived, it was quite a way from Bologna Central to our Air BnB this time and not a pleasant walk so we took a cab. Our room here is our favorite yet! It is hard to describe the rooms. They have made small spaces work for places to live but they are all apartments that are basically made to fit in these old palace walls. Huge palaces have been made into many apartments. This apartment actually has a little tiny outside garden that you can sit in and jasmine are in bloom out there - smells divine.
Of course, we hit the streets and begin exploring Bologna. This city is not nearly as well cared for as Firenze. Graffiti unfortunately is everywhere. And there is much more of a blend between the extremely old and the modern. Streets are actually paved in some places here, not entirely cobblestones like it is in downtown Firenze. But very old buildings and churches including an amazing Piazza still greet you.
We had an amazing dinner here - recommended to us by the locals. We both agreed that it was the most amazing Eggplant Parmesan we have ever eaten.......and of course we had pasta with Bolognese sauce.
Walked back and the day is done..........tired but loving every minute of our trip (except the bus fine LOL) and realizing it will be over soon.
